
Kaatje Roelant
Biografie
Kaatje Roelant is a teaching assistant and PhD candidate. She holds a Master's degree in Comparative and International Politics from KU Leuven (2018). Her research interests include police engagement with vulnerable populations, social and formal control, and the policing of migration.
She began her career in 2018 as an intern with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency. She then worked as a project manager, outreach worker, and later coordinator of a multidisciplinary team within the Department of Prevention of Anderlecht (Brussels South). Her work consistently focused on supporting people in situations of extreme precarity, including those experiencing homelessness, individuals without legal documentation, and unaccompanied minors living on the streets. In 2024, she worked at Unia, the independent public human rights institute that monitors compliance with anti-racism and anti-discrimination legislation.
