Description: With the arrival of two new prisons, Dendermonde-Nieuw and Haren, we are on the eve of many changes. In terms of infrastructure, vision, penitentiary staff, and new possibilities, there are many opportunities to be seized. The ESF project 'Towards a new vision on detention: Dendermonde-Nieuw and Haren', wants to examine the impact on the (organization of) help and services, staff, and incarcerated persons. For this purpose a mixed-methods research is conducted.
The common thread throughout the project is: communication as the catalyst for better and more accessible services. To optimize this communication, we focus on the principles of participation and (digital) inclusion.
Results include:
- More than 300 welcome-conversations with individuals newly arriving in the prison
- Six paid infofatikken (a trusted position) in one of the new prisons
- E-learning for new employees
- Support for these trustees, as well as for prison employees
- Checklist for clear language and clear writing.
- JustFromCell manual from the user's perspective.
- Validated set of symbols.
- Start-up of information team in which the infofatikken are embedded, together with stakeholders from the security staff and social services.
