Biography

Jasmien holds a master’s degree in Criminology (2018) and is currently completing her PhD at CRiS. Her doctoral thesis focuses on processes of othering, identification and categorisation of urban youth. In her Master thesis she explored the self-narratives of girls in sport for a development project in Molenbeek (Brussels), and was awarded the Jeanine Segers Prize and Gülen Chair Award in recognition of the innovative research methods used, and her ability to give voice to and empower a hard-to-reach group. Her research interests include urban youth, diversity, self-narratives, identity, migration and Brussels.
