Maylen Villamañan Alba
Biography
Maylen Villamañan Alba is an associated professor, head of Social Psychology Discipline at Department of Psychology, Universidad Central de Las Villas. Being granted of two Global Mind scholarships and a VUV-Cuba grant, she has a Doctor of Criminology (Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium) and Doctor of Sociological Sciences (Universidad Central de Las Villas, Cuba). She also hold a master's degree in social psychology (University of Havana) and a Summa Cum Laude Bachelor in Psychology, Universidad Central de Las Villas. She is a dedicated professional with extensive knowledge in psychology, sociology, communication, and criminology. Her specialization lies in social representations, violence, cinema and mass media. Currently, her research focuses on the popular criminology perspective, focusing on social representations and violence. Maylen is also a member of the project "Violence Stop: Protocols for the Care and Protection of Women and Children in Cuba" (SI Project VLIR 2022-2024). Granted with the Academy National Award of Cuban Science. She has participated in conferences related to cinema representations violence against women, indigenous groups and vulnerable groups as well as prevention and other media studies. She have several articles in academic journals related to these topics and she is associated with research organizations such as European Society of Criminology, LASA and CLACSO.
