Tom Bauwens

Dr. Tom Bauwens is a voluntary member of the research group Crime & Society at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He was a fellow of the Flanders Research Foundation (FWO) and his doctoral dissertation about the role of the mayor in the local governance of security won the Belgian award for best dissertation on Crime and Security in 2015.

Since 2019, he is Head of Unit of Evaluation of Security Policies at Safe.brussels, a public interest organisation that aims to coordinate prevention and security within the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region and to help all the parties involved to ensure the security of Brussels’ residents and all those who visit the Region. As part of the Brussels Observatory for Prevention and Security, his Unit is responsible for Evaluation capacity development as well as developing evaluation studies and research in the Brussels-Capital Region.
