Lars Breuls holds a Master’s degree in Criminology from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2015). His research interests include the practice of prison sentence implementation, the release of foreign national prisoners, and immigration detention. He holds a PhD fellowship from the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO), and is currently completing his doctoral thesis entitled “The point of (no) return? An ethnographic study of forced removal practices in immigration detention centres.” Prior to obtaining the Ph.D. fellowship, he was working as a researcher at the Criminology Department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel on a study of decision-making processes surrounding the recall to prison of conditionally released offenders (October 2015 – September 2016).
